PET COE Valk Award Lecture: Total-Body

SNMMI 2020 Annual Meeting - Valk Award Lecture: Total-Body PET with EXPLORER: Past, Present, and Future
Sponsored by the SNMMI PET Center of Excellence

Speakers
Ramsey D. Badawi, PhD; Simon R. Cherry, PhD

Course Summary
This presentation will discuss the motivation for developing total-body PET scanners and review the design and performance of the EXPLORER total-body PET system.  Clinical and research examples drawn from over 300 studies performed to date will be used to illustrate some of the unique opportunities provided by total-body PET systems, and future opportunities for using such systems to expand the range of applications for molecular imaging will be proposed.

Course Learning Objectives
Compare the difference between whole-body and total-body PET/CT
List 3 ways in which the additional sensitivity of total-body PET can be used in clinical or research PET studies
Describe an advantage of total-body coverage in the context of tracer kinetic modeling
