Nanci Burchell, MBA, CNMT, RS(NMTCB), RT(N), FSNMMITS is currently serving as the Radiation Safety Officer for Children’s Mercy Kansas City. She worked as a clinical NMT at Children’s Mercy for 20 years before transitioning to her current role as Radiation Safety Officer. Nanci is an active member of the Pediatric Imaging Council, has served as President of the SNMMI Technologist Section, and has represented the SNMMITS on the Image Gently alliance. Nancy will share technical aspects of performing renal functional imaging with 99mTc-DMSA.

Course Summary:
99mTc-DMSA has not been available in the US for several years due to a supply stoppage.  This agent was used for many years including cortical scintigraphy in pediatric patients in indications of post-natal assessment of renal abnormalities, hydronephrosis, and pyelonephritis.  A supply of DMSA was approved by the FDA in early 2022.  This webinar will provide nuclear medicine technologists with a review of the indication of tracer, patient preparation, tracer administration, patient positioning, and imaging acquisition and reconstruction.

Course Objectives:

  • List indications for 99mTc-DMSA imaging.

  • Describe patient preparation and dosing for pediatric patients undergoing DMSA imaging.

  • Explain imaging acquisition and reconstruction parameters utilized for DMSA imaging.

CE Information:
CE Credit application for technologists is pending. Check back for updates regarding CE Credit status. Note that this webinar will not offer CE Credit for physicians, pharmacists, and physicists.
