SNMMI 2020 Annual Meeting: History Session

Johannes Czernin, MD; Andrew Scott, MD

Course Summary
This is the twelfth consecutive year that the SNMMI History Committee has presented a session that explores and celebrates the rich history of our profession.  All nuclear medicine professionals with an interest in this history will certainly find this session of considerable interest.  This year’s session will honor two distinguished institutions within our field:  The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, celebrating its 60th year in publication, and the World Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology, celebrating its 50th anniversary.  Johannes Czernin, editor-in-chief of JNM, will review the notable history and success of the Journal as well as its contributions to the field over the past six decades.  Andrew Scott, WFNMB past president, will present its role of bringing practitioners of nuclear medicine from around the world together for over a half of century.  Beyond the wonderful stories of these two institutions, understanding our history provides us with a stronger foundation as we move the field of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging forward.

Course Learning Objectives
  • List 3 notable advances in the field of nuclear medicine that were initially reported in the  JNM
  • Discuss 2 instances of global cooperation as a result of the WFNMB
  • Discuss 2 ways in which these two institutions have improved the practice of nuclear medicine worldwide
